Gazette-Times: Gelser retains House seat

Theresa Hogue, November 8, 2006

In one of the most hotly contested local races, state Rep. Sara Gelser held onto her recently acquired seat in the Oregon House with a sizable victory over Republican adversary and Army veteran Robin Brown.

Other local state House and Senate races appeared to be going to incumbents as well, with Sen. Frank Morse and Reps. Andy Olson and Brian Boquist seemingly winning re-election.

The House District 16 seat has been the focus of much attention in the past year, as former representative Kelley Wirth resigned following a drug charge and an ethics complaint. Sara Gelser, also a Democrat, had lost to Wirth in the 2004 primary, then was tapped by local officials to replace Wirth.

Unofficial results late Tuesday showed:

Sara Gelser: 11,492
Robin Brown: 5,474
