Gazette-Times: Hearing scheduled for 'Karly’s Law'

Gwyneth Gibby, May 31, 2007

A public hearing will be held Monday in Salem to hear comments on what has been called “Karly’s Law” about investigating possible child abuse.

The legislation was proposed by Rep. Sara Gelser to address some of the issues raised by the death of 3-year-old Karly Sheehan at the hands of her mother’s boyfriend in 2005. The Department of Human Services had an open case on Karly at the time of her death because of suspicions she was being abused, but earlier investigation, done in conjunction with law enforcement, had concluded that her injuries were self-inflicted.
